Youths Charged in Connection with B&E

Wood Buffalo RCMP arrested and charged two youths in connection with a break and enter as well as theft of a motor vehicle that occurred in the Thickwood area on September 20, 2011. One youth was also found to be in possession of multiple sets of vehicle keys.

Police are reminding the general public to lock and secure doors of vehicles, garages and homes. Valuable property becomes an easy target for would-be thieves when doors are not properly secured. Leaving doors and windows unlocked makes residents vulnerable to property crime such as theft or wilful damage that could have been prevented.

Tips for Keeping Property Safe:
• Lock all vehicle and house doors and ensure all windows are secured
• Park vehicles (including recreational vehicles) in well lit areas and remove valuables
• Keep vehicle keys in a secure place, preferably not close to the front door or in plain view
• Safeguard your garage door openers and other keyless remote-entry systems
• Invest in a theft-deterrent system for vehicles and/or residences

If you have information about this, or any other crime(s), please call the Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788-4000, or if you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS), by internet at www.tipsubmit.com, or by SMS (check your local Crime Stoppers [www.crimestoppers.ab.ca] for instructions on how to do). You do not have to reveal your identity to Crime Stoppers, and if you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest(s), the recovery of stolen property, and/or a seizure of illicit drugs, you may be eligible for a cash reward.
