Warrant Arrest Issues for ex-Grateful Dead Drummer

Former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart says he’s innocent and claims he’s “baffled” by a warrant that’s been issued for his arrest.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ reported this week that Hart stands accused of assault following a Mickey Hart Band concert on September 8 at the Terrapin Hill Farm in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

The drummer, who played with the Grateful Dead from 1967 to 1995, says he’s stunned by the allegations.

“I am totally baffled by a bizarre claim of assault by me coming out of Kentucky,” Hart wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday, September 13. “The home of Bluegrass and a state I love dearly.”

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Cecil “CJ” Curtsinger says Hart attacked him after he rented Hart a tour bus.

Curtsinger tells the paper Hart attacked him, cursed at him and hit him on board the bus. Hart, however, says the allegations are false.

“Any accusation or claim of assault against me is completely false and without any basis whatsoever. I played drums on ‘Shakedown Street,’ but I never expected to be ‘The Victim or the Crime,'” he says, referencing a pair of Grateful Dead tunes.
