Forum Equity Partners on arena shortlist

A company that lost out on a bid to operate Hamilton, Ontario’s entertainment facilities is in the running for Fort McMurray’s downtown arena.

Forum Equity Partners lost out to Global Spectrum late last year when Hamilton asked for bids to run its AHL rink, as well as its convention centre and theatre.

The company says it’s got a wide variety of experience in public-private partnerships, and has an existing relationship with PCL Construction, which has operated on many oil sands projects.

But it hasn’t actually built an arena before.

The only experience it can point to comes from projects like a performing arts centre in Ottawa, the redevelopment of Toronto’s city centre airport, and the TransAlta office building in Calgary.
