Production back to normal at Kearl site

Bitumen production is at pre-shutdown levels at the Kearl site after a precautionary shutdown last month.

Yesterday, Imperial Oil confirmed production was ramped up. In early November the company discovered a vibration issue with the plant’s ore-crusher unit.

That prompted the shutdown at the site, which is 70 kilometres north of Fort McMurray. Imperial said it would have to install replacement parts on the unit to deal with the issue.

Kearl was producing an average of about 92,000 barrels per day outside of a 14-day shutdown in September.
