Travellers can now drive to a remote Wood Buffalo hamlet.
The Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is opening at 10 a.m. today, to light traffic up to 4500 kg.
Officials recommend using 4×4 vehicles and they’re warning drivers to be careful around rough delta sections. They say to prepare for emergencies because there’s no patrol, gas stations of cell phone coverage on the route.
The La Loche Winter Trail is slated to be open later this month, depending on the weather. Regular updates are available at the RMWB’s website.
