Prentice meets with Governor Chris Christie to talk energy

North American energy and pipelines were one of the main topics of conversation in Calgary yesterday as New Jersey Governor  Chris Christie and Premier Jim Prentice met ahead of Christie’s speech to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce. Canada is the State of New Jersey’s largest trading partner and Christie says Alberta has a great impact on his home state.

“What Alberta does for the economy of my state, in addition to the economy of our country is an enormous, enormous factor in job growth and quality of life,” he said.

The Republican is also a big supporter of the Keystone XL pipeline adding that “the regulatory steps that have gone on here have been way over board and the fact is that even with those regulatory steps, the people who have looked at it say it is something that should be approved.”

Premier Prentice noted the project has numerous benefits not just for Albertans and Canadians but for all North Americans.

“For us as North Americans there is an environmental advantage, there is an industrial feedstock advantage and there is a national security advantage for both our countries,” said Prentice.

Christie, who is a leading candidate to be the Republican nomination for President, will also meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper today.
