WINNIPEG – The Crown and defence are recommending that the killer of three homeless men in Winnipeg not be eligible for parole for 75 years.

John Ostamas pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder in April 2015.

At his sentencing hearing, the Crown called Ostamas a serial killer with no remorse who deserves the maximum sentence — life with no parole for 25 years, served consecutively.

Court was told the three separate attacks involved brutal violence against heavily intoxicated, vulnerable people.

Ostamas, who is 40, is a transient who has prior assault convictions in northwestern Ontario.

Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Vic Toews is expected to decide later today whether to accept the joint sentence recommendation.
