To mark Canada Day, the RMWB is thanking the Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast who came to the aid of our community during the wildfire, the evacuation, and now during recovery, thanking them for their incredible generosity.

“On behalf of my Council colleagues and all of the residents of our strong community, I want to express a profound thank you to all those who provided support to our community after the devastation of the wildfire,” said Mayor Melissa Blake. “And what better time than Canada Day to thank the many Canadians and organizations that stood behind us during these very challenging months. We will never forget what Canadians did for us during our greatest time of need.”

The Municipality’s own Canada Day celebrations and parade will pay tribute to the many heroic individuals, first responders and organizations who fought the wildfire. Thanks to them and the generosity of the entire country, the region is now on the road to recovery.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. on Franklin Avenue at Riedel Street followed by festivities for the whole family at MacDonald Island.

This year’s Canada Day parade lineup is the largest in our region’s history. The RMWB said the overwhelming response of parade participants — floats and walking groups — is incredible and is a true testament to our community.

In addition to this, the Fort McMurray Legion Pipes and Drums Band have confirmed that they will be performing a special tribute to the first responders and individuals who worked to save our community during the parade, with a two minute rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ in front of the municipal building.

The RMWB is inviting you to capture this special tribute by positioning yourself in front of the countdown clock during the parade.
