Tax relief for residents who lost their homes heading to WBRC

Property tax relief for the residents whose homes were destroyed in the wildfire will be explored, but not by regular council.

Now that Councillor Keith McGrath has withdrawn a motion that proposed a series of residential taxation relief efforts it will be brought to the Wood Buffalo Recovery Committee.

“This is being done so we can get this right for our neighbours, families and friends most affected by the wildfire,” said Coun. Keith McGrath. “The intent to help our residents that need it most remains a top priority and this will allow us to propose a solid recommendation to Council that is rooted in what will work best for the entire community.”

The Recovery Committee can explore multiple avenues for that relief and can look into having it covered by the Disaster Recovery Program.
