Following increasing cries from residents of Abasand, Beacon Hill and Waterways for more information about the re-entry and recovery of their communities, the RMWB has created a space on its wildfire recovery web portal that is specific to those three communities.

The municipality has committed to releasing updates on the plan for green-home re-entry every Thursday. The plan for Abasand and Beacon Hill is undergoing an intensive back and forth between the municipality and the Chief Medical Officer of Health as both parties scrutinize every detail to make sure the plan encompasses all aspects of re-entry and keeps residents safe.

Once the plan has the approval of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, residents in Abasand and Beacon Hill whose homes are in the first phase of standing homes will be able to return within five to seven days. The plan includes information centres and supports similar to what was available for the broad community re-entry that began on June 1.

As of Monday, August 8, a total 727 Demolition Permits had been issued, including for homes in the restricted areas.

182 have been issued for Abasand, 163 for Beacon Hill and 57 for Waterways.

Many questions residents have posed can be answered in the wildfire recovery web portal using the sections along the left-hand side.
