Direct Energy hosting meetings in town to respond to resident complaints

Following repeated complaints and confusion over charges and billing during evacuation and since re-entry Direct Energy will be in Fort McMurray for the next three days hosting meetings with residents to answer their questions in person.

“We know that customers have specific questions about the evacuation credits, charges during the evacuation period and the size of the bills, due to the multi-month period included – and we want to help,” Direct Energy said in a release.

The meetings will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, Thursday, September 29, and Friday, September 30 in the Fireside Room at MacDonald Island.

Direct Energy will also have representatives at the RMWB public engagement session Thursday night from 4-8 p.m. at Shell Place.

If you have questions about your bill you’re asked to bring it with you to the meetings where representatives from Direct Engergy’s Alberta customer service team will work to provide answers and come up with solutions including payment plans.

In the meantime customers are also encouraged to visit Direct Energy’s website to review the updated Frequently Asked Questions.

Residents have complained about bills in the thousands of dollars covering a period of time when the entire community was evacuated. Others have complained they are still being billed for a home or business that is no longer standing.
