The Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) has been awarded $10,000 toward their traditional hamper program.

This money will go directly to assisting our community and making sure families are fed.

“We are so grateful for this donation, especially during a time like this where we are seeing families struggling with the aftermath of the wildfire,” says Arianna Johnson, Executive Director of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank. “There are many different people facing several different circumstances, and we are happy that we are receiving the support needed so that we can continue helping those that need it.”

The donation comes from Maple Leaf Canada’s “Feed It Forward” campaign, which honours selfless Canadians who improve people’s lives and make their communities better through food and nutrition.

Canadians were encouraged to nominate a volunteer or an employee of a not-for-profit organization or community group who is deeply committed to their communities.

The top ten nominees were selected from across Canada and each received a $10,000 donation from Maple Leaf Foods towards his or her community program.

During the re-entry process of our community, that ran over three months, the WBFB provided 7,894 hampers to the community, totalling 8,645 individuals and 3,416 households.

These numbers are huge, and almost double the total amount of hampers the WBFB gave out in 2015 alone.
