Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo Waterways build project a go

Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Wood Buffalo has resumed their Railway Avenue build project.

The project was originally scheduled to start in May but due to the wildfire and building restrictions in Waterways, it was delayed.

“It looked as if we would be waiting until next build season to continue with this project,” said Executive Director for HFH Wood Buffalo, Crystal Lewis-Wilton. “With permitting restrictions lifted, we were able to get the project off the ground again for this fall.”

Screw piles were installed last Friday and foundation work is scheduled to begin this coming Thursday, this lays the groundwork for the arrival of the walls and floor panels.

“Our wall and floor panels were built in their pre-fab shop and have been waiting to come up the highway since mid-May,” said Lewis-Wilton.

The build will officially kick-off with the wall-raising on Saturday, October 29th.

If you would like more information about this project or other ways to get involved with Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo, they are hosting a free Pancake Brunch and Open House on Saturday, October 22nd.

The event will take place at the Legion, in Waterways, between 10:00am and 1:00pm.

Tickets are free and available online.
