2 women dead, 2 children injured after vehicle collided with semi-truck

Two women are dead and two children are in the hospital after their SUV collided with a semi-truck.

Wednesday afternoon RCMP officers were called to Highway 45 and Highway 881, they said “it appears a northbound SUV proceeded from a stop sign on Highway 881 at Highway 45 before being hit on the passenger side by a westbound semi-truck.”

A source close to the family says they were on their way back to Fort McMurray for the first time since the wildfire.

The 37 year-old female driver from Niagara Falls, Ontario, and a 32 year old female from Victoria, British Columbia, died at the scene.

A 12 year-old boy from Niagara Falls, Ontario, was taken to Two Hills Hospital by ground ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

An 8 year-old boy from Niagara Falls, Ontario, was taken to Two Hills Hospital by ground ambulance and then by STARS to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton with serious but non-life threatening condition.

The police did not say if the driver of the semi-truck was injured.

A dog was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash and was found deceased a short distance from the scene under some bushes.
