United Way's Community Campaign over 50 percent

With just four weeks to go in their Community Campaign the United Way is just over 50 per cent to their goal.

Over $4 million has been pledged so far, their end goal is $8 million.

“This is a great place to be with four weeks to go,” said Colin Hartigan, 2016 Community Campaign Chair. “We are seeing an extraordinary effort by our workplace campaign chairs and their canvassers. They are pouring their hearts into this and we can’t thank them enough.”

The campaign received a significant uplift from MNP who presented them with a cheque of $50,000.

“Every dollar is going to make a difference,” said Diane Shannon, Executive Director. “We are so grateful to everyone who has stepped up to invest in our community. We know that these are challenging times as the community recovers from the fire and struggles through a difficult economy. But in true Fort McMurray fashion, people are going above and beyond to help.”

The United Way currently funds 30 agencies and over 65 programs.

The funds generated during this campaign will provide essential community support come 2017-2018. They are expecting the need to be greater than ever before.

The campaign wraps up on November 18th, though donations will be accepted until the end of the year.
