Waypoints (formerly the Fort McMurray Family Crisis Society) has received a $115,000 donation, thanks to Ritchie Bros Auctioneers.

This donation will allow them to bridge the office space they need to bring new, additional staff in.

“The Alberta Government has already approved having additional counsellors come online to deal with domestic violence and sexual assault and abuse. This money is really going to help in terms of office space,” said Michelle Taylor Executive Director Michelle Taylor.

There will be two domestic violence out-reach counsellors and two domestic violence out-reach coordinators, which will coordinate services and provide education.

This additional office space will allow Waypoints to manage the transition over the next two years while they build the new shelter, and make sure they can continue the increased services post-wildfire.

Construction on their new site will hopefully start in the spring of 2017.
