The RMWB has begun its first Social Procurement Pilot Project.

The Municipality has issued their first Social Request for Quotes (RFQ). The Social RFQ is for an urban snow clearing contract, which has been developed with the Centre of Hope.

It will reward companies who are willing to create work opportunities for recently housed, formerly homeless people.

“As a complement to the Housing First Strategy, providing work opportunities is a very important next step in building a better life. The RMWB should be commended for taking this socially innovative approach to procurement,” said Stephen Bryant, Executive Director, Centre of Hope.

In September, Council approved the Social Procurement pilot project, taking steps to be the first Municipality in Alberta to move forward with a Social Procurement Framework.

“We are very excited to issue the first public sector Social RFQ in Alberta,” said Tanya MacAulay, Procurement Manager, Supply Chain Management. “This pilot project will be an important learning experience for us as we continue to proactively seek social and economically sustainable benefits for the region through Social Procurement.”

The Municipality will continue working and improving the pilot project to ensure the Social Procurement Framework provides clear benefits to the region.

To ensure all stakeholders have an opportunity to provide input, business owners and social profits are encouraged to register and contribute to creating a ‘Made in Wood Buffalo’ approach to improving lives and stimulating inclusive economic growth across the region.
