Volleyball:

The streak now stands at seven for the Keyano Huskies men’s volleyball team after a triumphant win Friday night against the NAIT Ooks on the road.

The Huskies were once again led by Jakub Zdybek who recorded 12 kills to go along with four service aces while Justin Delorme was not to far behind as he notched 11 kills.

The (7-0) Huskies only blemish of the night came in the third set as the Ooks kept the match alive with a (25-22) set win. Other then that, from the first serve to the last, the Huskies once again showed to be too much for their opponents as they have been all season long.

Spencer Fisher led the Ooks in almost every statistical category notching 14 kills to go along with three service aces and two stuff blocks.

These two teams will go to battle once again on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

In the earlier match, the lady Huskies controlled the play and were able to squeak by the (2-3) Ooks by a 3-1 scoreline.

Nicole Robinson led the (3-4) Huskies with a team high 11 kills, one service ace and 10 degs. Danya Nieman also chipped in six kills and one service ace.

The now under .500 Ooks recieved 10 kills by Nalani Stang, but she was outdone by Hannah Gorgichuk who chalked up eight kills to go along with four service aces while Taylor Card and Krystina Wanat added seven stuff blocks combined in the loss.

The ladies will once again take the court tomorrow afternoon with first serve set for just after 1 p.m.

Basketball

For the second time in three games, the Keyano Huskies men’s basketball team fell short by one point. This time by the hands of the NAIT Ooks.

The Huskies led by 14 points heading into halftime thanks to strong play from Rami Ghanem and Elle Dondon who both chipped in 14 points while Jonathas Michel managed 13.

The now (5-0) Ooks came out in the second half like they have all season and managed to outscore the Huskies by 15 points to win the game 68-67.

Jackson Jacob, who came into the game averaging just over 28 points per game this season, did not start but still managed to score 25 points while Brady MacKay added 16 points and four rebounds. Chris Mooney also continued to impress with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Huskies will look to earn a weekend split with the undefeated Ooks when they take to the court Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.

The lady Huskies gave it all they had and gave themselves a chance but proved to be no match for the dominating (5-0) Ooks who have now outscored their opponents by a combined 144 points over their five games to begin the season.

The Huskies went into the locker room at halftime down 44-26 and although the ladies stormed out in the second half and controlled play in outscoring the Ooks 39-34 in the remaining twenty minutes, the deficit was not one the Huskies could rebound from in losing 78-65 Friday night at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.

The Ooks were led by Malesha Patterson as she scored 22 points while going perfect from the charity stripe (5-5) and shooting well over 50 percent overall. Jordan Enns also chipped in 11 points while Sydney Hurlburt continues to be a force off the bench for the Ooks providing 16 points that included three long bombs and one block.

The (3-4) Huskies who have now lost three games in a row recieved strong performances once again from Sylivia Smith-Gatson and Moiyan Toure who scored 14 and 12 points respectively. Danielle McClellan continues to be a strong asset for the Huskies off the bench as she chipped in ten points.

The lady Huskies will look to get back to .500 on Saturday afternoon while the Ooks look to continue their domination. Tip off is set for shortly at 12 p.m. at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre.
