Council approves public sale of 49 properties

A busy night for council, they approved to sell 49 properties because of tax arrears.

Administration exhausted all attempts to collect the tax arrears, which totals $362,320.

Most of the land is in the Urban Service Area, three are in Fort Chipewyan, two in Anzac, one in Janvier and one in Saprae Creek. None of these properties were damaged or destroyed by the wildfire, those are not included due to unique circumstances.

The land will be for sale by public auction March 31, 2017 at 10 a.m.

Council also approved to write off, nine manufactured homes with tax arrears totalling $11,607 and nine other municipal leased property tax accounts with an outstanding amount of $31,996. They have been deemed ‘uncollectible’ the taxpayers responsible cannot be located.

Also written off was Accounts receivable arrears of $20,394. Which comes from emergency services, specifically, ambulance services that are deemed uncollectible.

The write-offs have no impact to the 2016 Operating Budget.
