Man arrested after escaping sheriff custody

A man has been arrested after escaping custody of the Alberta Sheriff’s by stealing their prisoner transport vehicle.

On December 5th, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a complaint from the Court House that Lyndon Rankin has escaped custody in the Sheriff’s prisoner van. Police also received complaints from the public about a dangerous driver.

Rankin was originally arrested on December 3rd for pointing a fire arm and being in possession of two stolen vehicles.

RCMP Officers located the abandoned Sheriff van on Alberta Drive and found Rankin a short distance away.

The 21-year old from St.Albert is facing multiple charges:

  • Escape Lawful Custody
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Cocaine, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

 

He will remain in custody, and is set to appear in court on January 9th.

No one was injured as a result of this escape attempt.
