Military veteran, Andrew Gorman served two tours to Afghanistan knows firsthand the affects PTSD can have on an individual and their family.

He was injured during an attack on a Taliban stronghold. After being medically released from the armed forces after eight years of service he relocated to Fort McMurray and is proud to call it home.

He will now be running the Project Trauma Support group for military and first responders suffering from the debilitating effects of PTSD and moral injury associated with the line of work that service men and women experience.

“For almost 10 years I Kept to myself and suffered the debilitating effects of PTSD – thinking ‘I’m alone, I’m the only one suffering,’ but after recently hitting rock bottom I quickly realized that I’m not alone. Several close friends of mine have very similar stories, all of us thinking, ‘I’m in this by myself,’ and no one dared talked about their devastating order.” Said Gorman.

Through the group he was able to learn the tools needed to help work through his PTSD.

The group is meant to reach out and let those who suffer from PTSD know that they are not alone, you can get better and you don’t have to suffer anymore.

“With everything this amazing town has been through I feel the importance of organizing this group has never been more important.”

The first meeting will be Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. at the Redpoll Centre in Shell Place.

First responders, Law enforcement, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency services, veterans and military are all welcome to attend.
