The Keyano Huskies men’s volleyball team kicked off their quest to win the ACAC Volleyball Championships on the right foot on February 23.

Heading into the tournament, the Huskies were the highest ranked team, as they currently sit at #3 in Canada. In game one, the Huskies took on the Briercrest Clippers, and after being taken to extra points in the first set by the Clippers, the Huskies cruised the rest of the way en route to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-17, 25-21) straight set victory.

The Huskies had many players chip in with quality efforts, but once again it was the three-headed monster in Mohammed Abdelrehim, Jakub Zdybek, and Blazej Pellowski who led the way. Zdybek led the offense with 12 kills, while Pellowski was not too far behind with nine. Abdelrehim finished with seven kills out of the middle.

The Huskies have now advanced to the semifinals of the ACAC Championship and have a tough task at hand. The Huskies will take on the Host Red Deer College, who also rank among the top ten in Canada. Red Deer cruised through their quarterfinal matchup against the NAIT Ooks.

The Huskies and Red Deer hook up on February 24, at 7:00 p.m. for the chance to play for a gold medal.
