The load limit on the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is set to return to 45,000 kg on Sunday, March 19.
Daytime load restrictions of 5,000 kg from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. remain in effect on the La Loche and Lac La Biche Winter Trails until further notice. During evening hours after 10:00 p.m., the limit for the La Loche Winter trail is 27,500 kg, and the limit on the Lac La Biche Winter Trail is unrestricted.
The load limits have been reduced during daytime hours as a safety precaution, and to maintain the integrity of the road.
As conditions on the La Loche Winter Trail are rough, motorists are advised to drive with caution and be prepared for emergencies as regular services like road patrol, gas stations, and cell phone coverage is unavailable during commutes.
High clearance 4×4 vehicles are recommended.
