Residents in our community have been reporting they were approached by a private company to install and enter a contract for a water filtration system endorsed by the RMWB.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo would like to assure that this is a scam, and the company is impersonating the RMWB, telling local residents the service is endorsed by the Municipality.
The RMWB is not approaching residents trying to get them into a contract for water filtration systems. The RMWB has also not been sending out technicians to residences to book appointments for installation or to sell water related services.
Residents are being reminded to avoid interacting with anyone impersonating the RMWB.
If you or anyone you know has been approached by a company that wants you to enter a contract to purchase a water filtration system, please contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at 1-780-788-4040 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
