Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo will be hosted a kickoff barbeque for the rebuilds the organization will be doing in our region on April 22 from 11:30 until 2:30 p.m. at the Frank Lacroix Arena.

“We have two rebuilds confirmed as of April 21,” Said Crystal Lewis-Wilton, Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity Wood Buffalo. “We are searching for more candidates, so we are looking between 8-10 throughout the course of this year.”

One of the houses Habitat for Humanity will be building is for a two-parent family with two kids. The second confirmed build is for a couple who own a small business in the community, their kids have grown up and they are long time residents in the community.

Habitat for Humanity is currently looking to break ground in mid to late May as they continue to work through the house plan and get the needed permits set in stone.

Additionally, as part of the Municipality’s commitment to keeping the community informed as the rebuilding season continues, there was a Here for You Session at the same time that talked about rebuilding options in regards to FireSmart, construction site safety and re-greening projects.

Habitat for Humanity also informed the public on how they can get involved in the builds and other volunteer opportunities.

There are many positions available with a variety of different skill sets from construction, to painting and organization.
