At the April 25 City Council meeting, Council unanimously supported Councillor Keith McGrath’s motion related to 2016 Property Assessments of properties severely damaged or destroyed by the May 2016 wildfire.

Residents who believe their properties were not assessed at fair market value have an opportunity to request the municipality update their assessment.

“I heard from several residents who disagreed with their 2016 property assessments, and I’d like to thank my fellow councillors for supporting this motion,” said Coun. Keith McGrath. “The intent to help our residents who need it most remains a top priority and I hope this will provide some relief to those residents.”

If you believe your 2017 Notice of Assessment of your property is inaccurate and does not reflect its market value, please contact the Assessment office at (780) 743-7900 or assessment.taxation@rmwb.ca.

The deadline to file an appeal is May 1, 2017. It’s important to note that 2017 property assessments consider the market value of homes on July 1, 2016 with a condition date of December 31, 2016.

If you and the Municipality can come to an agreement on the assessment of the property, the Municipality can revise your assessment without going through the formal appeal process, and issue you a new assessment notice.
