The local Kinsmen and Kinettes have donated $35-thousand to the Fort McMurray Catholic School District (FMCSD) and the Fort McMurray Public School District (FMPSD).

The donation will be divided among both schools districts and is a combination of local and national support for students and their families struggling after the fire.

“We know the wildfires have left a bell curve. Everyone is not coping the same way. Helping out with finances is a great way to support our students and their families. We are grateful to the Kinsmen and Kinettes across Canada for their thoughtfulness and generosity,” said Shannon Noble, assistant superintendent, FMPSD.

Both Kinsmen and Kinettes are volunteer community service organizations, they were contacted by Kin Canada the National Office, who offered to help with immediate and long-term needs.

Monica Mankowski, deputy superintendent for the catholic school board was also on hand to receive the donation.

“We are so thankful for the support from Kinsmen and Kinette organizations throughout Canada. This will be of great assistance for our families in need within the Fort McMurray Catholic Schools family,” said Mankowski.

This donation comes from the Kin National Disaster Relief Fund.
