Fort McMurray Giants ready for Opening Day June 2

The Fort McMurray Giants are gearing up for the 2017 Western Major Baseball League season which kicks off for the Giants on June 2-4 as they take the field on the road against the Lethbridge Bulls for a three-game set.

As of April 27, the Giants have signed 18 pitchers, four catchers, seven infielders, and five outfielders with the players being a combination of local Fort McMurray products, players from around Canada, and International players from as far as Puerto Rico.

“Barring any injuries or late additions, our roster is set and ready for Opening Day on June 2.” Said Andrew Bradbury, Coordinator of Scouting, and Recruiting.

After going just 16-32 last season while compiling a .271 batting average as a team, and a league-worst 7.20 ERA (earned run average) the Giants are looking forward to improving on last season’s struggles.

“We’re going to be a much deeper team, more diverse,” Said Bradbury. “Our outfielders are all centre fielders, they can all get on base, and steal bases. Our infielders have lots of power, we are going to be a balanced team.”

After beginning on the road, the Giants will make their way back to Fort McMurray and hit the field for their home opener on June 6 against the Edmonton Prospects which is game one of a five-game homestand.

Tickets for all 24 home games are on sale now by visiting Giants Tickets. They start at just $15 for adults and just $320 for a season pass.

The Fort McMurray Giants are also still in search of a few billet families for the upcoming season. As a billet, your family would recieve a season pass to watch each and every home game at Shell Place.
