May is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and Waypoints Wood Buffalo have been promoting two campaigns: “I Mustache You For Consent” and “I Believe You”.

Since late April, Waypoints have held a variety of community events, including kicking off the campaigns on April 27 with their “Kick off BBQ” which was a successful event.

“It’s been going very well, we have had lots of successful events and participation in our campaigns. Said Ashley Rix, Sexual Assault Program Coordinator at Waypoints, Wood Buffalo. “We’ve been visiting different locations with our campaigns, and we have been trying to get the word out that we are here for you.”

Waypoints, formerly known as the “Family Crisis Society” is continuing their Sexual Assualt Awareness Month with a busy weekend on May 26 and May 27.

On May 26, they will be holding their month-end party, with the theme being “Party with Consent” at Town Hall. For just $20.00, residents will get a ticket for the event, a burger, fries, and a cocktail/beer and the right to celebrate the cause, and end the month in style with Waypoints Wood Buffalo.

The event on May 26, will run from 6 until 9:30 p.m. and tickets are available for purchase at the door or at the Waypoints Administration Building at 8130A Manning Avenue.

“The event will be really informal, but it will still raise the awareness around Sexual Assault,” Said Rix. There will be some fun activities, and there will be information there if residents want more.”

Then on Saturday, Waypoints will wrap up the month’s events at both Tommy Guns locations from 12 until 4 p.m.

With a minimum $10.00 donation to Waypoints on Saturday, residents will get $5.00 towards their hair services.

“Our goal is to do all of this informally, but we want to spread the awareness, get our information out there, and if people want to reach out to us, they know they can.” Said Rix.
