Health Canada lab confirms carfentanil seized in traffic stop

A drug worse than fentanyl has been confirmed in Fort McMurray.

On May 24, 2017 the Wood Buffalo RCMP conducted a vehicle stop, where they originally thought they seized 390 fentanyl pills.

Results from a Health Canada lab show that the drug was carfentanil.

Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl, someone could overdose on as little as 20 micrograms.

In a press release the RCMP wrote that the presence of such a dangerous substance in the community is taken very seriously by the Wood Buffalo RCMP and is a high priority.

Three individuals, from Fort McMurray were arrested during the stop, and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

  • Krystal Audley 29-years-old
  • and Nathaniel Stewart 32-years-old
