Giants begin three-game set against Dawgs

Despite starting 0-5, the Fort McMurray Giants know they have been close to winning ball games this season and they will get another chance on Friday night when they open up a three-game set against the Okotoks Dawgs (4-1).

“We know we are only one clutch hit away from winning those ball games,” said Tyler Moskalyk, Pitcher for the Fort McMurray Giants. “We know we can beat any team in this league on any given night.”

The Dawgs will be making their first appearance at Shell Place this season and were almost untouchable until Thursday night when they were dominated in an 11-2 loss against the Edmonton Prospects.

The Dawgs have been great at the plate this year, scoring 41 runs in just five games and scoring less than seven runs just once.

The Giants on the other hand, have had lots of trouble scoring. Other then their 10 run performance on opening night against the Lethbridge Bulls, the Giants have scored just 11 runs since, totalling 21 runs in five games.

“The game plan is to score some runs early and not press while we are at the plate,” said Moskalyk. “Also, a focus is shutting down the Dawgs running on the bases.”

First pitch for the opening game of the Giants and Dawgs is set for 7:35 p.m. on Friday at Shell Place, with tickets still available at Giants Tickets, or at the Shell Place Box Office.

If you can’t make it down to the ballpark, you can listen live on Giants Baseball, beginning at 7:20 with the pregame show with Taylor Pope and Darnell Duff.
