The Fort McMurray Giants came back from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth, had multiple chances to win it late, but ended up losing 2-1 in 11 innings to the Okotoks Dawgs on Saturday evening at Shell Place.

The Giants (1-6) sent University of Winnipeg product, Tyler Moskalyk to the mound and Moskalyk threw a gem. He went 7.1 innings, and gave up no runs (one unearned run scored).

Graham Brunner pitched just as good for the Dawgs (5-2). He went 5.2 innings, and gave up one run in his first WMBL game.

After the Giants tied it up in the bottom of the sixth, they had a golden chance in the bottom of the tenth to win it, with the bases loaded but could not capitalize as the game headed into the 11th inning.

In the top half of the 11th, the Dawgs got a runner on, then sacrificed him over to second base. Then, stepped up Ryan Hummeniuk and he sent a laser off the wall in left field that scored the go-ahead run.

In the bottom of the 11th, the Giants got a runner on, but couldn’t drive the tying run in, as the Dawgs stole the win in front of 425 fans at Shell Place.

The two teams combined for just nine hits in the game.

The Dawgs and Giants will hit the field in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at Shell Place.

Tickets for the game are available at FortMcMurrayGiants.ca, or at the Shell Place Box Office.
