Tuesday evening was a night the Fort McMurray Giants will want to forget about quickly as they were thumped 15-1 against the Edmonton Prospects at ReMax Field in Edmonton.

“It’s really frustrating that things haven’t gone our way,” said Max Hewitt, Shortstop for the Giants. “Edmonton did a great job last night of getting barrels on baseballs and took advantage of every opportunity they had.”

After winning their first game of the season last Friday, the Giants have now lost three games in a row but will get another chance to end that losing streak on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in the finale of a quick two-game series against Edmonton.

“We’re going to have to turn the page and compete on Wednesday,” said Hewitt. “If we control what we can control and bring energy, focus, and a positive outlook to the field every day, things will start to go our way.”

After scoring one in the bottom of the first, and a scoreless second, the Prospects busted the game open thanks to a seven-run third inning. The Prospects continued to pile on runs in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five more runs to lead 13-0 after five innings.

In the top of the seventh, the Giants got on the board with a RBI single from Ryan Villarreal, but the Prospects added another two in the bottom of the eighth to secure a blowout win over the Giants.

The Giants got just four hits in the game, while the Prospects busted out 17 and the Giants made two errors.

John Reid started for the Giants and gave up six earned runs in just 2.2 innings, and he was followed by Josh Snider who allowed five more earned runs in 2.1 innings.

The team will next be at Shell Place on Friday night, as they open up a four-game set with the Lethbridge Bulls which includes a doubleheader on Saturday.
