Two students from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be sharing their perspective on education issues throughout the province.

Jeremy Marten from Fort Chipewyan and Fajar Khan from Fort McMurray were named to the Minister’s Youth Council.

The goal of the council is to give students the chance to help shape the education system andĀ engage with the ministry as partners.

The council is made up of 32 grade 7-12 students from across the province, they will meet three times in Edmonton.

Education Minister, David Eggen congratulated the selected students and said he was looking forward to their first meeting in the fall.

“They are passionate about sports, the performing arts and the environment. They volunteer for churches and mosques, community centres, animal shelters, hospitals and libraries. They are entrepreneurs and community organizers, Model UN representatives, photographers, accomplished public speakers, martial arts experts and cooks,” said Eggen.

“These incredible young people are united in their passion for education and their desire to ensure that every Alberta student is given the best opportunities for success.”

Students will sit on the council for 10 months to coincide with the school year.
