Time to crank up that air conditioning.

Environment Canada has placed Fort McMurray, some of the surrounding communities and much of the eastern portion of the province under a heat warning.

Brandon Proctor, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said that it is important for us to stay hydrated and stay out of the mid-day sun.

“We are definitely not use to it. If you start to feel the affects of the heat you should seek shade, hydrate yourself as much as possible and if you are really not feeling well get in to see a physician as soon as possible,” said Proctor.

Heat warnings are associated with the criteria created by Health Canada and Alberta Health Services.

For most of the province the warning is issued when there are two or more days of 32 degrees with the over night temperature at or above 16.

Proctor added that any person or pet should not be left inside a closed vehicle.
