Access Six Lakes or the Richardson back-country at your own risk

If you’re looking to access Six Lakes or the Richardson back-country it is at your own risk.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo wrote in a press release that the culvert at the 48-kilometre marker north of the southern gate on the Fort Chipewyan winter road has been washed out.

“If you know someone who’s currently in the backcountry we encourage you to get in touch with them as soon as possible. Likewise, backcountry users are encouraged to make contact with friends or family. We’re monitoring the situation and don’t expect any safety issues at this time, but if you or a loved one find yourselves in a dangerous situation please call 911,” said Director of Emergency Management, Jody Butz.

The culvert will not be repaired until the winter road is built in the fall, crews are mobilizing to secure and barricade the area for the remainder of the summer.
