Oil Barons defenceman Stefan Wood has committed to the SAIT Trojans for the 2017-18 season: Dan Lines Photography.

The SAIT Trojans of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference are going to be filled with former Fort McMurray Oil Barons players for the upcoming season.

Less than a week after MOB forward Jackson McKinstry committed to attend and play for the Trojans, the MOB announced defenceman Stefan Wood will be joining the Trojans this fall.

Wood’s time with the MOB was short but the veteran defenceman had an immediate impact with the club adding a physical presence and toughness to the back end.

The 21 year old was acquired at the AJHL trade deadline from the Drumheller Dragons and played 22 games with the Barons in the regular season and playoffs scoring once and recording ten assists.

“Woody is a guy that joined us at the deadline last year and really made a difference from day 1,” said Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca. “He’s a big body defenceman that skates well and plays physical, but he’s also a tremendous leader on and off the ice.”

The St. Albert, Alberta native played 61 games in the AJHL split between the Lloydminster Bobcats, Dragons and Barons registering five goals and 17 assists for 22 points.

“Although he was only with us for a couple of months, his leadership qualities had a positive effect on our dressing room during the time he was here. We’re happy for him and wish him the best at SAIT,” said Keca.

Wood is now the fourth former Oil Baron on the Trojans roster joining McKinstry, Zach Wittenburg and Connor McCallum.
