On Saturday, Aug.12 the Fort McMurray Fire Department (FMFD) responded to a house fire on 369 Mckinlay Crescent.

Firefighters initially attempted an offensive attack inside building.

“There was too much smoke and too much heat so they had to pull out,” said Brad Grainger, deputy chief of operations “They went into what’s called a defensive mode, too cool the fire itself and were protecting the structures on both sides.”

It took 14 firefighters from five different vehicles about an hour and a half to extinguish the fire.

The family all evacuated safely and there were no injuries reported.

Fire prevention was on scene and from the family they learned that their BBQ might have been the cause of the fire.

Grainger explained that it could have been the heat and the flames from the BBQ that hit the side of the house and spread to the roof.
