Fresh Prince of Fort McMurray offering positivity one post at a time

The Fresh Prince of Fort McMurray, Keith Muise, is bringing some positivity to your day, one video at a time.

Through his Facebook page “80s Summer Camp” he is trying to cheer people up through positive posts, videos and music.

His latest is a parody of the “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” theme song, but all about our community.

Muise is a teacher, who had to flee from the wildfire last year, but while stuck in gridlock traffic he received a call that his father-in-law was not doing well.

“He had been fighting cancer for about six years on and off and he just took a quick turn, pretty much the day of the fire,” said Muise. “It was the worst experience of my life being stuck in gridlock for that long, the city burning and knowing he only had a couple days to live.”

Muise asked himself what he was going to do and he decided to add as much positivity to the internet as he could.

“I use to get caught up in a lot of negative stuff, I would let little negative things rule the rest of my day,” he added. “The 80s Summer Camp idea is that it’s back to that grassroots, in the 80s when I grew up it was going outside and having a good time.”

“80s Summer Camp” is a mindset and Muise said it is everywhere.

“We want people to come be a camper with us, we want you to let loose. Throw away the shackles of being an adult or the troubles of everyday life and just remember that I can go do fun things to get myself out of negative trains of thought and bad moods,” he said.

Muise doesn’t want the posts on his Facebook page to just be from him, he said they want people to come out of their shells.

“If someone goes out and plays hide-and-go-seek with the neighbourhood kids, which were trying to get people to do, I want them to take a video or picture and send it to us and we’re going to show it to everybody else to glamourize all of the fun stuff we can do if we want too,” he said.

When you’re having a bad day, Muise suggests doing something goofy.

“If you do something really goofy, you don’t have any choice but to laugh.”
