UCP launches 'Buy Alberta Oil' campaign

Interim United Conservative Party (UCP) Leader, Nathan Cooper was in Fort McMurray on Tuesday.

Cooper is travelling the province talking to residents about the conservative movement.

“We think it is important to make a trip up to the economic heartbeat of the province and connect with folks and really just hear how things are for the region and chat about what is happening in the province,” said Cooper.

On Sept. 25, the UCP caucus launched a campaign called Buy Alberta Oil.

The campaign is in defence of the oil industry and the jobs it creates. The UCP will be sending replica prints of a 1940s billboard promoting the benefits of Alberta oil to political leaders across the country and Hollywood elites.

“That message of, ‘Where Quality Counts. Buy Alberta Oil.’ from the late 40s is still as relevant today, 75 years later,” said Cooper. “I think we all have a responsibility to get that message out and communicate to our friends and neighbours as well as those across the country that when Alberta’s economy is strong, our nation is strong.”

The idea for the project came from the MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, Tany Yao.

“I came across an old photo of a billboard from the 1940s whose message is as true today as it was back then: Where Quality Counts. Buy Alberta Oil. Retain Capital in Canada,” said Yao. “Albertans can always count on the United Conservatives to be hard at work for them defending our energy industry and all those who work in it. We’re proud of this important part of our economy and everything it’s given us.”

Cooper reiterated the fact that we all have the responsibility to speak positively about our energy industry.

“We have some of the highest quality oil, some of the most responsibility developed oil and we certainly have some of the best human rights record of any oil producing nation,” said Cooper.

The UCP will elect their official leader on Oct. 28.
