The Fort McMurray Fire Fighters Association has announced they have endorsed Don Scott for mayor.

In a press release, the association wrote that they have a focus on public safety and hope to enhance the fire and medical services for all citizens in the region.

“As our city continues to rebuild, our integrated fire and medical service also needs to sustain its modern and progressive stature, and provide a safe environment for our citizens in the Wood Buffalo region,” says Rob Van Hecke, president of the Fort McMurray Fire Fighters Association. “In order to achieve that, we need the support of our regional council. We believe that Don Scott can take us in that direction.”

Van Hecke said that Scott’s leadership, community involvement and attention to the fire department and public safety are why they’ve chosen to endorse him.

“Don has proven to be a strong supporter of public safety, and has shown his support for our firefighters in the past. He is a proven ally,” added Van Hecke.

The municipal election is Oct. 16.
