Aecon employee died at Suncor's Millennium Mine

An Aecon employee has died at Suncor’s Millennium Mine.

The investigation is ongoing after Wood Buffalo RCMP were called to Suncor on Friday, Oct 20 around 9:40 a.m.

Alberta labour spokesman,Trent Bancarz told MyMcMurray that the employee was working in construction excavation.

“A worker was engaged in trenching work and became buried,” said Bancarz. “He died from as a result from the injuries sustained from being buried.” 

At this time his name has not yet been released, but Bancarz said the man is believed to be in his thirties.

Sneh Seetal, spokersman from Suncor told MyMcMurray that the company is working collaterally on a full investigation into the tragic incident.

“We are extending our deepest and sincerest condolences to the persons family, to friends and coworkers at this time,” said Seetal. “We have also initiated grief counselling activities for people at site.”  

No other people were injured and all other workers have been accounted for.
