Snow Angels program seeks volunteers

Snow on the ground means it’s time for the municipality to gear up for this season’s Snow Angels program.

The Snow Angels program serves seniors aged 65 and older, who have nobody to help them clear snow. The goal is to provide them a better quality of life and helping them stay in their homes longer.

In its eighth year, the program already has over 60 homes signed up for the program and the number will likely increase throughout the season.

Nicole Martyn-Dickinson, Social Program Advisor with Neighbourhood and Community Development says volunteers are needed to shovel the driveways and sidewalks of seniors in the community.

“As our population ages, the need for new volunteers continues to grow, especially in our downtown neighbourhoods.”

The municipality donates shovels and scrapers to volunteers and they are delivered by the Parks Department staff.

Every year the program explains to make Snow Angels a truly community-based program to meet the needs of a growing number of seniors participating in the program.
