The Alberta government says nearly 1500 kilometres of two-lane highway have been paved or widened during the 2017-18 construction season.

Transportation Minister Brian Mason says 82 bridges and large culverts were also replaced, repaired or constructed as part of $1.4 billion in funding earmarked for the year for critical infrastructure projects.

Approximately $30.5 million was spent paving and grading sections of Highway 63 around Wandering River and Mariana Lake.

An additional $12.3 million was spent on a new safety rest area and truck staging south of Supertest Hill.

Mason says that in addition to relieving congestion on Alberta’s highways and enhancing major trade corridors, the 350 projects this year will support an estimated 5500 direct and indirect jobs.

More than 200 projects will be almost completed this year and about 130 will carry over or continue into next year.
