Regional Emergency Services celebrated the opening of the Janvier Fire Department.
The group of ten volunteer community firefighters began training in the beginning of 2017 and celebrated their opening with a community open house on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Lead by Fire Chief Jules Nokohoo the department will provide fire protection, suppression and other non-medical related emergency assistance to Janvier and the surrounding area.
“Opening a local fire department is an important milestone for the residents of Janvier,” said Darren Clarke, Assistant Deputy Fire Chief with Regional Emergency Services. “I commend Fire Chief Nokohoo and all the volunteers for their bravery and service, and for their commitment to keeping Janvier and the surrounding area safe.”
The group has already responded successfully to their first call.
