Conference Board of Canada predicts a big rebound for Alberta

How big is the rebound in Alberta this year?

The Conference Board of Canada said Wednesday it’s going to significant.

It’s updated forecast pointed to 6.7 per cent growth in the province by the end of 2017, well outstripping any other province.

The Conference Board credited a major upswing in drilling activity, but also robust retails sales and housing construction.

Next year it forecasts more muted growth, but Alberta is still expected to be one of only two provinces with GDP advances above 2 per cent.

B.C. will likely lead the way at 2.7 per cent.

If oil prices shoot up more like they have been, Alberta’s outlook will likely improve.
