The Wood Buffalo Brewing Company will auction off a second batch of “The Beast Whisky” bottles.

A pallet of peated malt endured the 2016 wildfire and evacuation outside the brew company, after the pallet was tested and passed approval the pub decided to turn it into a whisky.

“We knew we had something special, so decided to distill a whisky made 100% from this malt. It was an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come as a community and honour the firefighters who saved the city. It’s still crazy to think the fires made this whisky possible,” said Spike Baker, brewer at the Wood Buffalo Brewing Co.

They will auction off this year’s bottles on Nov. 25 at Wood Buffalo Brewing Co., along with multiple other items. The proceeds will go toward Friends of the Fort McMurray Firefighters charity fund.

The first auction was held in October 2016 and raised $28,750 for the Friends of the Fort McMurray Firefighters Association.

The Beast Whisky takes five years to age.

The the brew co. also plans to provide seven auction bottles per year for initiatives supporting victims of the wildfire.
