Human Rights Day is recognized annually around the world on December 10. The day commemorates when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
The human rights principles are enshrined in the Canadian Immigration and acknowledge that discrimination targets individuals and groups that are vulnerable to attack and are perceived as different. Human Rights Day brings together individuals, institutions and social profit to recommit to the principle that, all persons are equal in dignity, right and responsibilities without regard to race, religious beliefs, colour, gender identity, physical disability, age, ancestry, place or origin, sexual orientation or otherwise.
The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo and 15 community organizations will be hosting a celebration from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the grand ballroom of Shell Place.
