The jury in the first degree murder trial of Nigel LaFrance decided his fate Tuesday evening, finding him guilty of second degree murder in the 2015 stabbing death of Anthony Yasinski.

After approximately three weeks spent in the courtroom listening to witness testimonies, it only took the jury just over one day to come to their decision.

The jury suggested that LaFrance serve 10 years before being eligible for parole.

Defence lawyer Gregory Lazin said they’re disappointed with the outcome.

“Nigel has expressed his remorse over his involvement in the event for two and a half years.”

Chief Crown Prosector Lori Dunford thanked the jury for their time, adding that the Yasinski family respects the jury’s decision.

The Yasinski family is expected to read impact statements at LaFrance’s sentencing on Feb. 27, 2018.
