The Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is set to open at 3 p.m. Friday.
Initially the road will only be open to light traffic of 5,000 kg and under.
Aside from driving to conditions and obeying all posted signage, motorists are advised to use high-clearance 4×4 vehicles only, as the delta is rough with snow covering the area.
Watch for workers and equipment as crews are still working along the road.
Always be prepared for emergencies when using the winter road as there are no regular services like road patrol, gas stations or cell phone coverage
